Why is one of the world's most widely used programming languages also one of the least understood (and most misunderstood and maligned)?
Most developers will use, or have used, JavaScript - many will even claim to "know JavaScript" - so why do so many find it a source of endless frustration and pain?
A big part of the answer lies in the fact that JavaScript is not the trivial web-page scripting language it first appears, but a bijou power-house. Indeed in many ways it is quite different from most other mainstream programming languages.
It is also the one language that no modern developer can afford to ignore.
